So, there was this

bottle holder I found at Goodwill...
and then there was this leftover piece of nesting cylinder I had from Michaels forever...
and it was just a matter of their finding each other...

of CK's The Organized and Inspired Scrapbooker according to Random Number Generator is...

Hi Mou. I'm new to your blog. I could definitely use some organization ideas. My two tips are re-using jars for button, ribbon and more. After cleaning the jars, I spray the lids with paint and then wrap a decorative ribbon around them and sometimes glue a flower on too. I also cut pieces of cardboard and wrap my fabric around them like a bolt of fabric at the store. So much easier to find and it's takes up much less room.
Thanks for letting me enter.
Hugs...Tracy :)

Congrats Tracy! Please email me at mou_s51@yahoo.com with your addy and CK will mail out your prize to you :)

Thanks to all of you for sharing your ideas, tips, suggestions and needs. I can relate to you all. You might find Aby Garvey's blog helpful.

Inspired by the ideas and tips, I did some organizing of my own. For example, I arranged my Martha Stewart punches in open view (boy, how I need that!!!) on these shelves I got from Goodwill for $2.06 each. It was inexpensive, satisfying, useful and utilizes wall space... 'cause, there's NO floor space left after years of collecting!!!

More to clean... more to rediscover :)
Happy Monday!

The challenge, the solutions and the giveaway

The biggest scrapping challenge I face is staying organized and I know that I'm not alone. Many scrappers face this challenge and most of us feel frustrated when we can't find the right embellishment or tool that we possess but always seem to be mia exactly when needed the most. If you are one of us, then CK's newest publication "The Organized & Inspired Scrapbooker" might be just the help you need to focus, organize and create an efficient and inspiring space.

My Glitz Design Layouts for January

Do you love to find patterns in papers that you can cut out to make a big embellishment? I do! I also love black and white photos. So, I combined my love for both in the layout “Always Remember to Dream”.

I cut out a section of the black and white floral patterned paper and nestled my also black & white photo into it. To dress up the cut out, I applied glitter glue to some of the petals and let dry. Once it was dry, I gently curled the petals of some of the flowers.

I added giant pink rhinestones to create the flower centers.

To create the title, I cut out a sticker to suit my page.

To finish the page, I journaled around the photo.
"Always Remember to Dream" supplies: Glitz Design "Hoopla" papers: Pipework, Floral; Glitz Design "Scarlett" Titles cardstock stickers; Glitz Design giant rhinestones: pink

Now, if you don’t have a girl to scrap about in your life or if you don’t like to scrap boy photos with flowers, here’s something that’s more masculine, more streamlined and more energetic.

I did a simple clean grid design. I stamped onto patterned paper with musical notes, hounds tooth and book print stamps, punched them out with square punches and arranged them as shown. To add a little color, I stitched them down with embroidery floss.

Added a giant black rhinestone

Added a message using the mini alphabet stickers

Added title and journaling to finish.

"Sing Laugh Smile" supplies: Glitz Design "Scarlett" papers: Polka; Glitz Design "Love Nest" papers: Block; Glitz Design "Distressing Set 2" clear stamps; Glitz Design "Scarlett" Titles cardstock stickers; Glitz Design giant rhinestones: black; Glitz Design Teeny Alpahs: ivory block
Thanks and have fun!

First Giveaway of 2011

Creating Keepsakes' newest special issue is out... The Best of Digital Scrapbooking!

Now I am not a digi scrapper... for one excuse or another, I haven't tried my hands at it. When I opened up this issue, I find the fabulous layouts that intrigued me and as I was getting ready to sigh and say, 'I could never do that!', I noticed that there are step-by-step instructions and many with screen shots. It kinda decodes the mystery step-by-step for you. No matter what your scrapping level is, I think it is definitely worth a try. Just take a look at some of the gorgeous layouts here. And this one...oh, this one is my absolute favorite!!!

Now, thanks to CK, I can give away ONE copy of this brand new special issue. Please leave a comment to this post to tell me what one new creative thing you plan on trying in 2011 by Sunday 1/16/2011 and I'll announce one randomly picked winner on the 17th. You can also use the coupon code DS25DT at check out to earn free shipping on orders of $25 or more at the Scrap & Paper Shop.

Good luck :)

Class and shop updates

The new year is in full swing and there are a few updates...
I'll be teaching my "Sealed With A Kiss" album at Scraporium on Friday, 1/21/2011 from 10-12 am. If you are local to the Tampa, Wesley Chapel, Lutz area, I hope you could join us to make this mixed media Valentine journal. I'll bring your kit and you just bring the basic tools to the class.

Then on the next Friday, 1/28/2011 from 3-5pm, I'll be teaching an altered canvas class, "Owl Always Love You" at Scrapendipity Retreats. If you are into mixed media and love to stretch your scrapping supplies to make home decor pieces, this might be the class for you.

The following Saturday, 1/29/2011 from 3-5pm same place, I'll have another class of which we are still working on the details.

I'll be repeating the "Owl Always Love You" Altered Canvas class at Scraporium on Saturday 2/5/2011 from 3-5pm.

Recently, I have added more goodies to my Etsy shop. Such as these poster prints and these journal kits.

The Resolutions 2011 kit was featured in the treasury list here.

Happy Tuesday :)

You won't believe this...

Yesterday started out just as an ordinary day for us... breakfast, play, work, going out to lunch, stopping by Petsmart to see all the puppies up for adoption... ok, so far all was same old same old routine, but then... magic happened!!!
We saw Brave... the fuzzy wuzzy black poodle looked at me and I'm pretty sure he smiled...
Someone was getting him out of the cage and I thought well, he's taken... we kept looking at hamsters, birds, hermit crabs, fishes and Om kept whining that we could never get a pet all because of Nini and Nini stuck her tongue out at him and I said, 'Guys, be NICE to each other' and then we were back near the dogs and then...
The lady petting him was actually leaving WITHOUT the poodle... contrary to all my momly safety instincts, etc. I heard me saying, "Nini, would you like to pet him?" and before I heard a yes, my kids were all over the poodle who did not seem to mind at all the excited shrieks "Awww!!!", "Hey mommy, he licked me!"... and I noticed that Nini was not swelling up, she was still breathing, not choking, not itchy... I mechanically pulled the cell phone out to call Ashis to come in to take a look and did not even notice that the phone was out of battery...
Then, I did another unthinkable thing... I told the Adoption lady to watch over my kids while I go get their dad... she was more than happy and the kids did not notice I was gone and I ran like a mad woman across the lot and grabbed the surprised man out of his car and pulled and pushed him into the pet store muttering gibberish explanantions through the process...
After the questions that needed to be asked and completing adoption papers and shopping for the essentials, we drove home... and without further gibberish, meet my youngest ... BRAVE :)

Thanks to all of you who gave me suggestions about what kind of dog might be safe for Nini... we did it!
... and life is never going to be the same again :)

Welcome 2011

Wish you a very Happy New Year! May the new year bring you whatever it is you are hoping for... be it good health, be it progress, be it love, be it more confidence...
I love fresh starts... love the feeling of something new, something not material or tangible but very powerful...
Are you making resolutions this year?
Sometimes I skip a year or two... just let it flow. 2010 was somewhat similar.  In 2011, I'm seeking a little more structure.  However, I'm keeping my list simple and brief. Jotting them down here. Elaborate and detailed plans don't work for me... sometimes I even find them rather stifling! But this year, in order to make progress, I'm going to need a plan and will need to refer back to that plan at times. So, I tied it in with something that brings me comfort... art, colors and just the freedom to write down what's on my mind.

Enjoy your weekend :)
